Crew Have Signed Up-

There are people signing up nearly every day, asking to join a crew for our Log Dodge races.  Lets get them involved; you and the club, can only benefit by having more involvement in the sport.

July 4: Fireworks at the Marina.  No Racing this week.  Come out and enjoy Everett's fireworks spectacular.  The views are unbeatable if you anchor out in the river.

July 11: Log Dodge S1 R5, Theme: Favorite Sports team.  We need volunteers for RC and Food.  This is the last race of the 1st series, overall results will be announced at the Muse after this race.

July 18: Log Dodge Series 2 Race 1, Theme: Cowboy/Cowgirl.  We need volunteers for RC and Food.

Log Dodge 1-4 Results

The 4th race in this Log Dodge series was a proper summer race, light winds, pleasant temperatures a bit of sun.  RC set the course for A&B Fleet MBT and for C Fleet B.  In all 12 boats came out 4 in A, 6 in B and 2 in C fleet.  It was a downwind start with a few spinnakers to make the run down stream quite a spectacle.  It was a slow trip to mouth of river against a pretty strong current but everyone made it.

All the cast members of Gilligan's Island and other sailors enjoyed a nice meal of Chinese food and some drinks at the Muse. After GI corrections in A Fleet Parthian Shot took 1st, Exit 2nd and Wily B 3rd.  In B Fleet Mei Li in 1st, Sunday 2nd and Isola 3rd.  In C Fleet Orca 1st and Tinker 2nd

Big Thank you to:

Dale, Edith & friends from Cielo Sin Fin for providing us with Race Committee and to Robert Carmichael from Lucky Lindy with help from Phil Gaye and son for the great meal.

We have filled all the spots for Race Commitee for the remaining Log Dodge races.  There are still opportunities for food service on July 11 & 18 and Aug 1 & 8

Log Dodge 1-3 Results
The 3rd race in the series was a ragger! The forecasted winds were grossly underestimated.  The nice windy conditions turned out to be extreme near gale force winds at the start with manageable winds only near the end.  Nevertheless 7 boats; 5 A Fleet and 2 B Fleet turned out for the race. The C fleet competitors were off to Back Bay for the wagon wheel anchor.  Crews scrambled to reef the main and get the small head sail rigged.  RC set the course a HBT and wisely decided not to disburse the ducks in the river.  It was a bumpy wet ride for all the crews as each boat found their way around the marks and back to the finish. At the muse we were greeted by Luke who was awarding ducks to the crew who could correctly answer a duck trivia question.  A nice creative solution to the wind issue at the start.  After duck corrections in A Fleet Exit held on to 1st, Gecko 2nd and Rising Sun moved up to 3rd.  In B Fleet Sunday was 1st with Samurai in 2nd.

Big Thank you to our volunteers:
Grant Albert and team for the excellent RC duties and Luke for the duck trivia.  Jon and Zoe provided a wonderful taco meal and once again Jax helped me with the awards.

In Other News:
The 1st annual Round Jetty Is. race was by all accounts a huge success.  For pictures and posts of the event go to the MSA Facebook page.
The 2nd annual Solstice race was a good one, plenty of wind 6 boats came out all double handed crews.  The course was H4 boats finished in the 2-hour time limit.  Congratulations to Espresso for their 1st place finish.

- Note To Racers -

Parthian Shot is the 1st boat to complete the Possessing the Sound, MSA Challenge Course.  Since he is the only one to do so this year, he is currently in 1st place for this course and 1st place for the series.  There is time to get out there and complete the courses.   I look forward to posting a lot more results soon.

CYCE/MSA
Race

It was a great day to be out racing, plenty of wind, cool temperatures, no rain.  In all 19 boats competed 6 were from MSA; Sunday, Gambit, Samurai, Gecko, Parthian Shot and Rising Sun.  There were 3 races 2 were in a triangle circuit windward then a reach with a downwind finish the final race was a simple windward leeward all starboard roundings.  The race committee did a great job of moving the program along so that we finished the last race by 2:00 leaving time to meet up at the Salish Brewery for a beverage or 2 results and enough time to make our way back to Everett before dark.

The windward mark was set close to shore off of Sunset Ave where my wife Bernadette cheered us on and took this picture for the report.  In division 1 (boats with rating 180 and above) Sunday took 2nd, Gambit 3rd and Samurai 5th.  In division 2 Gecko took 3rd, Parthian 8th and Rising Sun 9th.  In the final tally CYCE won the challenge with 2 1st, 1 2nd 2 4ths and a 5th place overall finishers.

Next year we will be hosting the event.  It will be our chance to win the coveted flag back again.  The results have been linked to our CYCE/MSA Challenge cup page.  Some videos were made during the race with a drone.  I will send out a link to the video's when I get it.
